Snus Hanoi Old Quarter historical monument

Where To Buy Snus in Hanoi?

Vietnam is an unforgettable destination. From the electric chaos of Hanoi, the beach-town energy of Da Nang and Nha Trang, to the food, scenery, and unbeatable hospitality — it's paradise for travelers. But there's one not-so-small hiccup many visitors face: bringing in your snus supply.

Tight customs regulations make it nearly impossible to bring enough for a full trip, and once you arrive, you quickly realize: snus isn't sold in stores. Anywhere.

So... where do you buy snus in Hanoi in 2025?

We’ve done the legwork (so you don’t have to)

We at SnusLAB set out on a mission to uncover where travelers and locals alike might find snus in the Vietnamese capital. After searching far and wide — from convenience stores to specialty tobacco shops — here’s what we found:

Introduction

After looking for places that sell snus in Hanoi, we have concluded this list of places below. We asked customers who lived in these places for common places they would get their snus from, and rank them from the "Most Convenient" to "Least likely to find".

Places with the potential to sell snus in Hanoi:

  • Tobacco stores
  • Convenience stores
  • Gas station
  • Duty-free shops
  • Pharmacies
  • Vape stores
  • Online retailers

Tobacco stores

These spots are typically packed with smokes, cigars, vapes, and Vietnamese "thuốc lĂ o". But when it comes to snus, nicotine pouches, or dip? Not a clue. We even asked. Most shopkeepers had never heard of snus.

That said, we did stumble upon a Japanese specialty store that carried imported chewing tobacco — but it wasn’t snus, and it cost a fortune. So while it’s a cool find, it’s not a real solution.

Convenience stores

Convenience stores in Hanoi ranges from small street vendor to more established stores such as Winmart. Street vendors here often offer a smaller selection of tobacco product, such as: cigarettes, rolling tobacco, vapes, or "thuốc lĂ o". The same result was found in bigger stores in Hanoi, none of them offer snus, nicotine pouches, or any other form of smokeless tobacco. The lack of snus presence in Hanoi, or in Vietnam, is replaced by other more popular, accessible, and cheaper alternatives such as cigarettes, or vapes.

Gas stations

Forget it. Vietnamese gas stations aren’t like the 7-Eleven-style shops you might know from back home. Most just sell gas — no snacks, no drinks, and definitely no snus.

Duty-free shops

We hoped to find snus at Hanoi International Airport's duty-free shops. They usually offer a wide selection of foreign goods like snacks, wine, spirits, alcohol, and cigarettes. After visiting 5 duty-free shops at the airport, they told us that they used to have snus and nicotine pouches before the pandemic in 2019. However, due to the lack of foreign visits for vacation, demand plummeted. Snus is not recognizable by the Vietnamese people. Therefore, the majority of customers are foreigners who had prior knowledge about snus or nicotine pouches.

Pharmacies

There were no snus or nicotine pouches in the smaller pharmacies. However, we found American made nicotine patches that sticks on to your skin at a bigger pharmacies chain. This could be an alternative to snus or nicotine pouches, but this lack the common flavor that comes with snus which can be a different experience. Despite this, imported American made nicotine patches usually fetches upwards of 1.000.000 VND for a pack.

Vape stores

Here’s the real kicker: in 2025, Vietnam introduced strict regulations banning the sale of vapes and IQOS nationwide. Vape stores are now either shut down or operating in the gray market.

This created a surge in fake nicotine products — including counterfeit pouches on the street. These sketchy options may look legit, but the ingredients and safety? Huge question marks.

Online retailers

Established snus brands such as VELO, LYFT, ZYN, Siberia currently do not offer shipment to Vietnam as of the writing of this article. Therefore, the best bet to buy from their websites is through neighboring Asian countries such as Japan, Thailand, Pakistan, and have someone take it for you.

Why is it so hard to find snus in Vietnam?

We have explored this specific question in our previous post "Where to find snus in Vietnam?", and we found these where the most common reasons:

  • Strict regulations regarding snus
  • Society attitude
